SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Two people were killed and several more were injured when a wrong-way driver hit multiple vehicles on Highway 101 in San Francisco, according to the San Francisco Fire Department and the California Highway Patrol. The crash happened around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday.

The CHP reports that the wrong-way driver hit two vehicles and was able to keep going. Then, it hit a van head-on.

According to a release from the CHP, “Both the wrong way driver and the driver of the passenger van were pronounced deceased on the scene. The front passenger inside the van was transported with major injuries and is in critical condition. The other five passengers in the van were transported with unknown injuries.”

The CHP has towed four vehicles for evidence in the investigation of the crash.

All northbound lanes were closed in the vicinity of the final crash at Alemany until just before 10 a.m.
